Do you use VOIP or land lines for phone service?
- I have Cingular as my cell phone provider - have a decent plan that works well for me. I use Skype and Windows Live Call for all international calls
- I use both. I have a land line that I use for regular phone service. Mostly I use my cell phone, so it is not worth it for me to pay the monthly fee of Vonage or other VOIP companies, but I enjoy having the land line so people can call me without using up minutes. I use VOIP for international calls and sometimes long distance. The rates are amazing and the quality is pretty decent. I like being able to call Chile for USD 0. 017 / minute
- Vonage! the best service out there
- Avaya VOIP at work then via mobile micros avaya client over VPN at home, and Cell for other PPC phone
- To answer most generically, VOIP and land lines POTS or 'plain old telephone service interact with each other pretty seamlessly these days - and both interact with cellular networks equally well. A call from my girlfriends VOIP line to my POTS line demonstrates the compatibility of these services, and also the flexibility and limitations - she's calling over a satellite internet connection from a treeplanting camp in northern Canada, so there is a measurable delay between her send and my receive. And when her satellite connection is down? Well, we still get in touch but use all three networks - I use my POTS line or a public one, if I am on the road to connect to a calling card that uses a VOIP backend and dial through to her cell phone. Roaming charges are not fun, but otherwise very cost effective. So truly, any call has the potential of using one, two, three or potentially even more different protocols for transmitting voice think of intra - corporate phone systems - depending on the origin and destination
- I use land line, though I plan to start using Vonage soon
- I use a land line but not all that much. I mostly use my mobile phone
- VOIP only
- Neither. I have had only a cell phone for 2 years now and it is worked very well. I do not have any reason to call internationally but can always grab a calling card. Why pay for the extra time?
- I use Vonage, which is VOIP using a normal land line phone. Overall I am very happy with the service and would highly recommend it
- I have got a Verizon calling plan at home for land line service and do not really have a need to much long distance calling. I also carry a personal cell phone and a work cell phone. I haven't used VOIP yet
- I use both, but both are VoIP based. Comcast digital phone service - is just a renamed version of VoiP sold as POTS - plain old television service came bundled with internet and digital cable deal we still have yet to transfer it over to Vonage. My wife likes to keep in case the power goes out - ya still got 5V powering the phone. Vonage - for long distance calls and faxing, it also works on my Pocket PC Phone and laptop via SIP client. Skype - for international calls and podcasting. VoIP is inevitable all standard POTS pbx technology will sooner or later migrate over to full VoIP
